IT’S GOOD TO BE BACK!
Reopening the salon after five weeks of closure for COVID-19 has been exciting and stressful all at the same time. What I can say is my clients and team have been amazing and between us we have got though it!
While the salon was closed I spent a lot of time working through every single aspect of the salon, from the services we offer to the training for our team. This has given me a new attitude and it feels like I have opened a new salon, the feeling is awesome and walking through the door makes my heart skip a beat.
From a service delivery perspective I worked with Andrea our Service Director to rewrite our procedures for every service. For our clients this means we can deliver a consistent experience regardless of which stylist they see. I really wanted to live by the mantra of “Every Client, Every Time.”
Another big change has been our opening hours, we now start seeing clients at 9:30. This half an hour in the morning lets us get together as a team and plan the day properly. We develop an action plan to keep things running smoothly, discuss what worked well (or not) the day prior and get that first coffee in to make sure our clients get us at full energy.
Everyone has also adapted well to the increased hygiene measures and most of these will stay in the salon after this pandemic passes. We have always been proud of our cleanliness but these new tweaks and sanitising procedures will keep our team, clients and community safer when visiting. I am looking forward to being able to run a full team each day and returning the missing chairs whenever social distancing restrictions are lifted.
With school closures I have sent David to work from home so he can home school the children (I did not want that job.). I have also changed Tahlia’s role to work with David at home as our PA and marketing assistant. This means we are on the hunt for a new receptionist/salon coordinator and I have a few interviews scheduled this week.
As a business owner I am proud of my ability to pivot during this pandemic. Our online consultations, product sales and social media strategy kept the business strong. As a hairdresser I am glad I was able to help my clients with their needs and remain connected on a personal level. As a leader I am excited by the opportunities for my team to grow and develop with our new structures.
